Statutes

Ibsen Scope Grants were initiated in 2007 by the Norwegian government and handed out for the first time in 2008.
The statutes below were determined by the Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Affairs on January 16th 2016.

Statutes of the Ibsen Scope Grants.

1. The Ibsen Scope Grants were established by the Norwegian parliament in relation to central government budget for the fiscal year of 2007. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the funds.

2. Grants are awarded to individuals, organizations or institutions.
Grants are awarded innovative projects in the field of drama and performing arts that act as incentives for critical discourse in regards to existential and society-related matters concerning Henrik Ibsen.

3. In cooperation with Teater Ibsen, the Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Affairs appoints a jury responsible for awarding the scholarships. Jury members are appointed for four years. The jury members can be reappointed.

4. The presentation of the grants is an integral part of Ibsen Scope Festival.

5. Grants are awarded based on a written application, which should arrive no later than the predetermined deadline, and which must abide by the rules set for the application procedure.

6. Teater Ibsen administers the scholarships and facilitated the jury’s work.

7. The manner, in which public funds are used, is annually reported to the Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Grants 2024

Ibsen Scope offers funding of theatre performances world-wide through the Ibsen Scope Grants.

The projects must act as incentives for critical discourses on society related matters and be based on one or more of Henrik Ibsen’s plays.

Applications are submitted electronically through this website.

Who can apply?
Individual artists, theatre companies, organizations and institutions.

The program amount to a total of NOK 2.000.000,-.
(Approx. Euro 180.000,- /USD 190.000,-).

The applications will be evaluated by an appointed jury.

The Ibsen Scope Grants will be handed out for the 13^th time in 2024.

The application deadline for the Ibsen Scope Grants 24 is December 7th 2023.

The winners will be presented at Teater Ibsen in Skien, Norway during Ibsen Scope Festival April 24. and 25. 2024.

The Jury of The Ibsen Scope Grants:

Mariken Lauvstad

Jury

Mariken Lauvstad (1983) is a rewarded Norwegian theatre critic, dramaturg, and writer. She is educated from the School of Stage Arts in Denmark and has her MA in international dramaturgy from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Torkil Sandsund

Jury

Torkil Sandsund is a theatre director, educated at Oslo National Academy of Arts. He also has a degree in acting from Ecolè Lecoq in Paris, France. Sandsund has directed several performances in theartes like Teater Vestland, Nationatheatret, Det Norske Teatret and Teater Innlandet in Norway, Kanul Nadaree in Afghanistan and CITO in Burkina Faso. Sandsund is currently the artistic director of Preform and Tater Fabel, and together with Miriam Prestøy Lie he runs the annual theatre festival Fjalerfestivalen.

Jon Tombre

Jury

Jon Tombre is a Norwegian theatre director and producer. He is educated at L'´Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris and Oslo Academy of Performing Arts. Tombre is a prize acclaimed director and has directed more than 90 performances both in Norway and abroad. He has also been working as a producer, dramaturg and consultant. He has worked as a consultant at the Norwegian Culture Council (1997-2000) and as artistic director of the stage department at Dramtikkens Hus (2010 -2011). Tombre is for the time being working as a programmer at The Cultural Schoolbag.
